Hot Off The Press:
Coining the term “group-giving,” Spott automatically donates up to 50% of its proceeds to sponsored charities based on the amount of deals sold. The actual donated amount is dependent upon a unique sliding scale system that allows for higher donations with increased purchases. While many group buying sites already successfully unite merchant with customer, Spott realized the importance of adding a third partner to the mix: charities.
“This is a 'we all win situation' and a local economic booster,” says Spott CEO, Maximilian Schwarz. “We start off working as a team to be able to purchase the deal, while simultaneously improving the community you live in with group-buying. It’s not just about getting great deals or giving to charities; we want people to realize how important they are and the power they have to make an impact, especially when they come together.”
While normally Spott.com donates as much as 50 percent of its proceeds to sponsored charities based on the number of purchases, this month the site will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds from its deals to the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross. Half of these proceeds will go to aid the victims of Japan’s recent earthquake and tsunami and half will remain in San Diego County to assist locally in emergency prevention and preparedness.
